Make a difference Spay & Neuter

By Maria Brittis

Spaying and neutering your furry friends prevents diseases, increases longetivity and reduces unwanted dogs or cats in today's world.
Because our lives are very busy and leave little time to care for our furry friends its very important to take the time to spay and neuter your new pet.

We live in a world where they euthanize over five million animals because there are not enough homes for them.

In Beaufort and Ridgeland alone over 5000 animals are put down. If people would take the time and realize how important spay and neutering are there would be less critters in shelters. Some of the advantages of spay and neutering: It prevents prostate cancer in males and ovarian cancer in females. Yes dogs and cats get the same diseases as humans. It positively influences the pet's behavior. An animal fixed is likely to roam the neighborhood looking for a mate and less likely to get into fights. Excessive barking hyperactivity and aggression are drastically reduced.

Cost is a most common factor why a pet owner does not fix his pet. If you are on a tight budget there a local spay and neuter programs that help subsidize the cost. Don't feel embarrassed to ask for help.

Call your local Humane Society, the Hilton Head Humane Society or the Beaufort Humane Society for questions on spay and neutering or contact Carolina Companion Animal Organization Spay and Neuter clinic for information on whether you are eligible to get your pet fixed.
There are grants available through the Carolinas Companion
